Happy moments are those which bring us together for a cause. Summer is over, but there was still an opportunity to get together in a warm afternoon, with a purpose that made us very proud: the defense of our oceans in the important fight against plastic pollution by performing a Beach Clean Up!
As part of the International Coastal Cleanup Day, Bandeira Azul joins the initiative of the Oceano Azul Foundation, transforming this day into an entire week of beach cleanup initiatives organized by different Associations. Affinity decides to take part of this movement gathering a small group of Affinity volunteers and heading to Praia da Rainha in Costa da Caparica last Friday September 25th and getting into action!
Indeed, the third Saturday of September is every year reserved for the celebration of International Coastal Cleanup Day. A day that aims to move teams from all over the world, and hundreds of volunteers, to clean up and raise awareness to the need of actively protecting our oceans and our environment.
In a challenging year such as this one, it is imperative to keep in mind that sustainability is an important issue that deserves our attention and effort. It is still possible – and necessary – to defend our environment and take action even if we have to do so while being extra careful and adopt measures such as participation restrictions and social distancing. This being said, we would like to thank Bandeira Azul for having given us this opportunity to collaborate! It certainly was a fun afternoon full of affinity where we were able to express our commitment to contributing to a more responsible and sustainable world!
